MXR Reverb Pedal M300 Review

Many amps come with built in reverb, some do not. Some amps with built in reverb have terrible reverb sound. The MXR Reverb pedal solves these situations nearly perfectly. This pedal is compact but solid in its construction making it good for the road and a pedal board.

Our main amp setup is an EVH LBX-S lunchbox amp attached to an EVH speaker cabinet. The EVH amp doesn’t have a built in reverb and we knew we needed one right away. The intention was to use the built in effects loop for the best overall sound.

MXR Reverb Pedal Features

The MXR Reverb Pedal has six types of reverb, Plate, Spring, Epic, Mod, Room, and Pad resulting in quite a bit of flexibility. For the average player plate and spring provide the most traditional effect. In our experience plate is the favorite and once we found the sound we pretty much set and forget it. MXR describes the different settings as this…Plate emulates the bright, dense sound and smooth decay of the vintage studio effect. Spring yields classic guitar amp reverb. Epic creates a massive sound built from multiple interconnected modulated delays. Mod is a modulated studio plate reverb. Room simulates a small room with an early reflection slapback sound. Pad is a blend of higher and lower octave synth sounds combined with a reverb effect.

The pedal features your standard input and output 1/4″ jacks with an added 1/4″ port to use with an expression pedal if that’s your thing. For power it uses a standard 9V input making it to integrate to most power supplies. BTW, this pedal has no provision to run on an installed battery.

True bypass – like many pedals the MXR Reverb pedal is equipped with a true bypass allowing a complete circuit bypass when the pedal is off.

MXR Reverb Pedal Review

This is a simple purpose pedal and since we found the effect that works for us we haven’t messed with it much except for the occasional adjustment of the decay, mix or tone that’s all about needed. Like we said before we set it and forget it with this pedal, it’s always just right. The foot switch gives great feedback when used and the bright LED leaves no guessing as to whether the effect is on or not.

This isn’t necessarily inexpensive but feels worth every penny. Check it out on Jim Dunlop, the manufacturer of the MXR Reverb Pedal M300
